Oakland is a nice town located next to Franklin Lakes, Pompton Lakes, and Mahwah. The town is fairly spread out but there is a nice center of the town feel near its main shopping center, the Copper Tree Mall. There are many store and places to eat in the strip mall including a Staples, Muscle Maker Grill, and many others. Conveniently located in the mall is an MV Center that tends to be less busy than many others because it does not offer road drivers tests. Located in a smaller strip mall nearby is the pizza place Juniors, a local's favorite.
Oakland’s school system includes three elementary schools, one common middle school, and a choice of two public high schools, either Ramapo or Indian Hills high schools. Indian Hills high School is in Oakland very close to the main center of towns and has an enrollment of about 1,200. In addition to the two public high schools, there are many private high schools in the area for both girls and boys such as Don Bosco in Ramsey or Immaculate Heart Academy in the Township of Washington.
The major highway route 287 runs through the town which connects it to much of Bergen county. Oakland has a commuter bus service to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in NYC and a NJ Transit bus that takes people around NJ. Residents can access the nearby Newark Liberty International Airport for any of their far away traveling needs. Oakland has an active recreational department offering many sports for all seasons, and they even have a baseball parade for all the teams in the town. Oakland also has a bowling alley in town called Holiday Bowl which is great for kids’ birthday parties or if you just want to go somewhere on a rainy day. Oakland as a town hosts many events throughout the year including a Halloween Parade, and a town Carnival.
